Kombucha Tea Review - Miracle Tea Or Just A Scam?

Kombucha-Tea-review-img1It seems that every month there is a new health food craze which is sweeping the US and has all the celebs rushing to endorse it.

This time its the turn of Kombucha tea - featured in a number of celebrity mags and UK newspapers often under the title "miracle tea". Lindsay Lohan has recently been spotted out and about with a bottle of Kombucha Tea.

So what is Kombucha Tea?

Kombucha is a form of fermented tea containing high amounts of bacteria and is brewed from certain types of yeast.

To explain exactly what Kombucha is, we should refer to the traditional Chinese name for it - chameijun, which translated simply means "tea mould".

If the recent media attention is to be believed, Kombucha tea is a miracle tea which can help you lose weight, improve eyesight, and even help cancer recovery.

The big problem however is the lack of any clinical evidence which can prove or disprove these claims.

Many of the claims from those who recommend Kombucha tea, focus on its supposedly naturally high levels of glucoronic acid - a compound used by the liver to detoxify the body.

However a recent study which analysed both home grown and commercial versions of Kombucha tea, found that there was actually no glucoronic acid content at all.

Kombucha Tea Side Effects

While Kombucha's effectiveness is certainly questionable, the side effects are much more clear.

There have a high number of reports of allergic reactions to the tea, with upset stomach, jaundice and even breathing problems commonly reported.

Taste is also a big issue, with many users dropping the tea after just a few days owing the very acidic and unusual flavour.

According to a recent Daily Mail article, Dr Emma Williams from the British Nutrition Foundation called attention to the fact that further study is seriously needed.

"Until more is known about Kombucha tea, the health benefits and harmful effects should be viewed with caution." - Dr Emma Williams

Is there a better option to Kombucha Tea?

Kombucha-Tea-review-img3While Kombucha tea is yet to be studied, there have been many varieties of tea which have been clinically proven to promote weight loss and boost the immune system.

Tava Tea is one particular blend of tea which contains three highly beneficial leaves - Sencha, Puerh and Wuyi Cliff Oolong.

Tava Tea can be made just like a normal "cuppa" and even tastes just like normal tea. Tava Tea is made from 100% organic leaves and is supplied as a tea bag.

Unlike Kombucha, Tava Tea has been the subject of several clinical studies which have attributed its use to a faster metabolism, stronger immune system and even positive mood.
