Although Reductil's active ingredient - Sibutramine has been deemed effective by the US Food and Drug Administration, there are numerous side effects that have been reported.

The most common side effects include: increased blood pressure, headache, feeling sick, upset stomach, rapid heart beat, dizziness, depression, and occasionally arthritis.

Any side effects no matter how minor must be reported to your doctor straight away, you should cease taking Reductil immediately if you experience rapid heart beat.

*Update January 2010*

Reductil banned - The European Medicines Agency, or EMA for short, has now suspended Reductil's licence over fears that users are at an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes.

A total of 17 deaths have been reported since 2001, with over a 1000 people having serious adverse reactions to the drug.

Reductil's main ingredient sibutramine has been examined in an independant clinical trial, with results confirming it leads to an increase in heart problems amongst users.

reductil-side-effects-img11Although Reductil does work, there are far safer appetite suppressants that work just as well, in some cases better without any side effects - Notably Hoodia Gordonii, a South African cactus which has been clinically proven to suppress appetite and is 100% natural.

Hoodia Gordonii is processed into pure capsule form by a company called UniqueHoodia, who are based in the UK.

Getting a prescription for Reductil

Your doctor will only prescribe Reductil if all other methods of losing weight have failed, and you are at risk from developing weight related diseases. Normally your doctor will measure your Body Mass Index (BMI) as this will also be taken into consideration. This is also the same procedure for people considering taking Alli. Both Reductil and Alli are considered to be medical drugs due to their chemical formulation.

What is Reductil?

Reductil is the brand name given to the active ingredient Sibutramine. Reductil is a commonly prescribed diet tablet or slimming pill designed to suppress appetite and kill hunger.

As with other prescription only diet supplements, Reductil has been endorsed to tackle obesity, however it may also raise a few issues of its own.

Reductil is currently only available from your doctor, and only after determining that you are eligible and are considered to be at risk from developing weight related diseases. Reductil is basically a chemical compound and classed as a drug, it is not available to buy online or on the high street without a prescription.

How Does Reductil Work?

Reductil works as an appetite suppressant and will lower your daily calorie consumption. When we consume a meal, sensors in our stomach signal the brain to release 2 important chemicals; serotonin and noradrenaline. When these two naturally produced chemicals reach a certain balance, we feel satisfied and our appetite decreases.

After a while both chemicals begin to normalise until they drop enough to make you hungry. Reductil can hold off the levels of these 2 chemicals from dropping to the hunger level, thus leaving you feeling fuller for longer. This helps cut out cravings and snacking between meals.

Where to buy Reductil

Reductil has now been banned for sale by the European Medicines Agency.
